Waiting on Wednesday / Can’t Wait Wednesday
Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted here, at Wishful Endings, and my version is a mix of what I’m waiting to read, whether it’s a new release that is not out yet, or an older book on my TBR shelf, which I really want to read but haven’t got around to it yet.
Here’s my ‘Can’t wait to read’, book for this week:
Sorcerer to the Crown – From Book 1:
Winner of the 2016 British Fantasy Society Award for Best Newcomer
Shortlisted for the 2016 British Fantasy Society Award for Best Novel
Shortlisted for the 2016 Locus First Novel Award
Sorcerer to the Crown is the first in Zen Cho’s thrilling magical adventure series, the Sorcerer Royal Trilogy.
In Regency London, Zacharias Wythe is England’s first African Sorcerer Royal. He leads the eminent Royal Society of Unnatural Philosophers, but a malicious faction seeks to remove him by fair means or foul. Meanwhile, the Society is failing its vital duty – to keep stable the levels of magic within His Majesty’s lands. The Fairy Court is blocking its supply, straining England’s dangerously declining magical stores. And now the government is demanding to use this scarce resource in its war with France.
Ambitious orphan Prunella Gentleman is desperate to escape the school where she’s drudged all her life, and a visit by the beleaguered Sorcerer Royal seems the perfect opportunity. For Prunella has just stumbled upon English magic’s greatest discovery in centuries – and she intends to make the most of it.
At his wits’ end, the last thing Zachariah needs is a female magical prodigy! But together, they might just change the nature of sorcery, in Britain and beyond.
Zen Cho is the author of a short story collection (Spirits Abroad, 2014) and two historical fantasy novels (Sorcerer to the Crown, 2015 and The True Queen, 2019). She has won the Crawford Fantasy Award and the British Fantasy Award for Best Newcomer, and was a finalist for the Campbell Award for Best New Writer. Zen was born and raised in Malaysia, resides in the UK, and lives in a notional space between the two.

This series sounds awesome! I love the mashup of Regency London, magic, and the Fairy Court. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
Wow- nice cover! And a Regency setting with fae elements? Sounds like an awesome premise. 🙂
Happy wednesday!!!
I’d really like to read both of these. The covers are really striking as well!
Hope you enjoy!
I have been wanting to read this series. It sounds so good! Magic, London, the fae?! I can’t resist that combination.
I love Sorcerer to the Crown so much. I preordered the hardcover copy of The True Queen, so I have to wait a little longer to get my hands on it, but I am so excited.
I love the cover and the sounds of this!
Great CWW pick this is actually the first time I have heard or seen this book, I hope you do enjoy this book when you get the chance to read it. Thank you so much for stopping by my CWW post last week.
Thank you too, Kati! x
