My desk, work area, whatever, looks fairly neat in the picture. That’s probably because I seldom work there. It is, however, a more appealing shot than my lap. Oh, yes, bless wireless and laptops. I’ve tried at least half dozen different chairs designed for working at a desk in my office, at my desktop. Alas, none do my back a favor. Besides that, my long suffering husband got to where he felt like he lived alone. As a pantser writer and a bit obsessive, once I start a story, PLEASE, don’t interrupt me. I may not snap at you, but you’ll more than likely get a vacant stare while I try to be polite by ignoring you, but my head is still in the story. When my kids were growing up, they learned ‘Just a minute’ didn’t have anything to do with sixty ticks of a clock, but a finish to that particular train of thought I was typing away on. I’m perfectly capable of totally spacing out in the middle of a busy restaurant. My mother, on one occasion and recognizing the set gaze, asked where I was. I promptly told her about 1863 in Virginia. Yeah, Civil War. Another time she told a friend I was either mad at her or working on a story was the reason I wasn’t talking to them during a shopping trip. I can’t help it. Once the story starts, the characters and plot have me working out the twists and turns in putting down how they do what they do, why, and where. The Civil War is about as far back as I’ve gone in history, ours anyway. For fantasy, that’s another story. In science fiction, I’ve gone past the moon in universes far, far away, all without leaving my spot on the couch.
