Welcome to our WHAT’S ON YOUR DESK, WEDNESDAY? Our Weekly Spotlight Feature!

I’m also joining in with two new features, Waiting on Wednesday and Can’t wait Wednesday, which you can find below this interview, What’s on your desk, Wednesday! Yep, It’s Wednesday everyone. Happy Hump Day!

First, let’s take a look at where stories are created, from the desk of… C.E. Long

My Writing Routine by C.E. Long

I do EVERYTHING ELSE but write and wait for that moment until I can do NOTHING ELSE but write. I don’t eat, I don’t sleep, I’m nourished by coffee and cigarettes. I do nothing but write until the wee hours of the morning until the sun comes up. Then I have to consciously force myself to eat a meal and pass out. Then I wake up and do it all again, having far too much in my mind that needs to come out to sleep any longer than 2 or 3 hours. I repeat this daily until all that inspiration is spent, then I wait for it to happen again. Could last days, could last weeks, could last months, and the wait in between is the same. I know… this all sounds very unhealthy and draining, but it’s the greatest feeling I know in this life when it happens.

A Thin Line Between Love and Lust

Dominique – A hurricane tore this sweet southern girl from her family. She moved to California to escape the memories and forget the pain. It worked. The fast life drew her in and before she knew it, she was dancing for dollars at strip clubs. She was numb. It wasn’t until Prince came along that the flood gates opened, releasing the pain of her past. But the losses she’s suffered may have left a hole too big for one man to fill.

Angela – A single mother of two young boys, Angie’s an independent woman overwhelmed with responsibilities. After divorcing a husband who chose the streets over his family, she’s ready to experience life in new ways. When she meets Prince, a whirlwind love affair gets her back into her groove. But it was only supposed to be fun, she didn’t plan on falling for a man who is already taken.

Nyla – Teased as a kid for her looks, Nyla grew up never feeling pretty. When an older man began showing her special attention, she fell for him hard. He showered her with gifts and sweet words and she returned the favor with her body. When he left her pregnant to go home to his wife, she learned then that men can’t be trusted. They only want one thing, and they’ll pretend to love you to get it. And this Prince character didn’t seem any different.

Prince – Girls always loved Prince, he was their best friend. But being a best friend wasn’t getting him what he wanted out of a relationship. How do you get out of the friend zone? How do you get a woman to see you as more than the nice guy she can talk to? When he learns how, women start to flock to him and he ends up with more than he can handle. But when each woman brings her own struggles and pain, how will he handle his own?

Waiting on Wednesday and Can’t Wait Wednesday!

Welcome to Waiting on Wednesday, a weekly meme linking Waiting on Wednesday by Breaking The Spine and Can’t Wait Wednesday by Wishful Endings
I can’t wait to read the third book in the series of ‘An Ember in the Ashes’, which has strangely now, changed not only its series title to ‘Ember Quartet’, but all the covers.  I find that a shame, when I’ve collected two books out of the three already, and now they don’t match the latest book.  Looking at Goodreads (see below) there are already 199 reviews for this book and it’s not even out  until 14th June!  In case you’re wondering, it’s mostly readers angry about the book cover change, too.  So anyone with a feng shui bookshelf is going to be thrown way out of balance with this revamp!
Also, there are two covers I can find…
Which cover do you prefer? The first is more fitting, I can see the characters straight away, but I’m not overly keen. I loved the original covers.

A Reaper at the Gates (Ember Quartet #3)

by Sabaa Tahir (Goodreads Author)
 4.26  ·   Rating details ·  256 Ratings  ·  199 Reviews

Beyond the Empire and within it, the threat of war looms ever larger.

The Blood Shrike, Helene Aquilla, is assailed on all sides. Emperor Marcus, haunted by his past, grows increasingly unstable, while the Commandant capitalizes on his madness to bolster her own power. As Helene searches for a way to hold back the approaching darkness, her sister’s life and the lives of all those in the Empire hang in the balance.

Far to the east, Laia of Serra knows the fate of the world lies not in the machinations of the Martial court, but in stopping the Nightbringer. But while hunting for a way to bring him down, Laia faces unexpected threats from those she hoped would aid her, and is drawn into a battle she never thought she’d have to fight.

And in the land between the living and the dead, Elias Veturius has given up his freedom to serve as Soul Catcher. But in doing so, he has vowed himself to an ancient power that will stop at nothing to ensure Elias’s devotion–even at the cost of his humanity.

  1. Hi,

I’m stuck on the first book in the series by Sabaa Tahir, I liked it but for some reason I still didn’t get to the second one. As fo thr covers I loved the new edition, they are more fitting to the series but if I look st it aestheticaly then I prefer the one on the right.

    1. Yes, I’m totally torn between which of the new cover I prefer. It’s strange, I’ve heard readers both rave about this series , or go the completely other way and hate it.

      Thanks for popping by, Viki!

  2. Leslie – Hello~ My name is Leslie and I live in Ohio. I was born in Texas though! I worked in a library until I quit, to focus on Infertility treatments, and start my family. I was blessed with a miracle baby boy, named Oliver. I'm a SAHM and it's the best job I've ever had. It's definitely a tough job though!! I love making friends and talking about the love of a great story. I'm always trying to tackle that never ending TBR! I read a lot of genres but Fantasy, Romance, YA, & Middle Grade are my some of my favorites! I do really read pretty much anything but horror. I'm also trying to branch out into children's books since my son is obsessed with reading too! Thank you for stopping by my blog! <3
    Leslie says:

I cannot wait for this one!! It was on my WoW a couple weeks ago! I loved the original covers and I wish she would have stuck with it for the hardcovers. I mean… it will not match my previous two books at all!

  3. You always remind me that I need to get back to the Ember Quartet. Hope you enjoy this one!

    1. Thank you! I get the feeling there’s going to be another one after this… So hurry lol

  4. I’ve been kinda eyeballing the Sabaa Tahir series for a bit, but haven’t taken the plunge yet. I think I prefer the second cover. Changes to the cover like that can be aggravating!

  5. Sam's Little Corner – Texas – I am currently working on my master's degree in Environmental Science. I am an avid reader as well as a movie enthusiast! I currently live at the bottom of Texas with my husband and three dogs.
    Sam's Little Corner says:

I really enjoyed the first book by Tahir, and I need to pick up the second book!!! I also really love the old covers, and a little sad that my collection won’t be the same!

    1. Hi Sam!

I wonder if they’ll bring out an older version for us complainers? 😉 That would be great, I’d definitely stop complaining then! LOL You know what this means though, I am going to have to spend more money to get all three the same now. I bet a lot of fans will now (have to) do the same (to calm their OCD)…
