Welcome to our weekly feature where we have a good nose around your desks each Wednesday. The same book is also being featured as this week’s Waiting on Wednesday / Can’t Wait Wednesday choice.
What do you think, would you enjoy this… drum roll please…. (scroll down for cover! I know, I’m such a tease!)
Sassy Brit : What’s on your Desk, Wednesday, M.J. Schiller?
From the Desk of : : M.J. Schiller
My routine usually begins around five or five-thirty. My husband and I work out together and he makes us protein shakes for breakfast. We shower and get ready for the day, (although with COVID restrictions, showers are often optional ☺). We say our daily prayers together and then he goes downstairs (to his hole/office) to work. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday I’ll watch eight o’clock Mass on my computer and then I’m at it. The first thing I do is fill my buffer with tweets for the day that go out whenever I schedule them. Then I usually check Facebook, my personal email and my author email, and maybe Twitter. It’s difficult to keep up with everything. I like to check my notifications and respond to people on Facebook and thank people on Twitter who have retweeted for me and retweet for them. It’s all pretty dull.
At this point I’m closing in on ten. I go outside and fill my birdbath and feeders and then, this is going to sound weird, but I usually try to get a nap in between ten and eleven, when my husband takes his lunch. The reason for that is we have an older cat who wakes me up every night. She may need food, but mostly she just feels that I need to be awake. Once I am up, she seems to feel her job is done and will often fall back asleep. But it’s not as easy for me. I’ll do some work, read my devotionals, or totally waste time and play Fishdom. (It’s addicting. I don’t recommend it!) Being up a couple of hours every night in the middle of the night is incredibly draining. But, since my husband still works and I can nap during the day, I get up. I am retired from the job I had for fifteen years, while my kids were gaining their education, and that was being a lunch lady at their school.
I like to have lunch with my husband and so half the day is done before I get to start in on my writing. I’ll write until four, when my husband gets off work. We like to play a game called Text Twist together after he’s finished up for the day, then I might get a little more work in before dinner. After dinner I’ll work until nine and then my husband and I like to watch TV for an hour before heading to bed. This is pretty much the set routine during quarantine. At some point during the week I will make a grocery store order for us and a friend who has chronic pain, pick it up, deliver it to her, and come home. So, even though I’m retired, I don’t have a ton of writing time. But, it’s what it is. I’m lucky to be able to retire and do what I love.
Things I don’t do routinely but probably should: Clean. I’m not much of a cleaner. It just seems like a waste of time when I have stories to write. Read. I don’t have time to do any of the reading I want to do. I plan to slow down my writing in a couple of years and do more of that.
I have a very nice office I made when my boys left for college and refused to take me along with them. It is a very nice office, but I work on the couch. The Wifi didn’t work well in there originally, and I haven’t really checked it since. So my real desk is my coffee table. I use the cat’s perch to put all my necessaries—Kleenex, something to drink, eye drops, cloths to clean my glasses, and hand cream.
My pictures: the office ~ my favorite things in my office are my book covers and the word READ above my desk and the sign that says “Happily Ever After Starts Here.” Also, I have a frame with pictures of all my pets, my kids, and my husband and on the glass it says, “You’re what happened when I wished upon a star.” I love having my loved ones close like this.
My writing buddies: Serena, the tortoiseshell cat that keeps me up at night and my grandkitty, Rengar, and grandpuppy Ginny. They’re the best! When I’m watching them they’ll curl up on either side of me. Sometimes Renny has writing ideas he feels he needs to express by walking across my keyboard, but I usually discard them (his spelling is atrocious!)
Sassy Brit : What’s the weirdest thing on your desk?
MJS : Okay. When you ask for weird from me, you’re going to get weird. I have a saucepan on my desk. It is a very expensive saucepan with a lifetime warranty on it. I used it once and the coating started to flake off. My intention was to send it back. It’s been there at least six years! I’m awful!
Or maybe the party hats and blowers, are the weirdest things. Hard to say. Or the top hat. Definitely could be the top hat.
SB: The most useful item?
MJS : My laptop. It’s my life’s blood. If it ever goes down, well, it’s not pretty. I freak out.
SB: Three words to describe your desk:
MJS : Messy, centrally-located, dusty.
SB: Where can we find more about you?

Bestselling author M.J. Schiller is a retired lunch lady/romance-romantic suspense writer. She enjoys writing novels whose characters include rock stars, desert princes, teachers, futuristic Knights, construction workers, cops, and a wide variety of others. In her mind everybody has a romance. She is the mother of a twenty-six-year-old and three twenty-four-year-olds. That’s right, triplets! She likes to escape from life on occasion by pretending to be a rock star at karaoke. However…you won’t be seeing her name on any record labels soon.

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted here, at Wishful Endings, and my version is a mix of what I’m waiting to read, whether it’s a new release that is not out yet, or an older book on my TBR shelf, which I really want to read but haven’t got around to it yet.
About the Book:
When rock star Raphael Santiago comes to the defense of reporter Mia Love’s cousin, things heat up in this sizzling, new romance from bestselling author, M.J. Schiller.
Rock star Raphael Santiago is haunted by the night his friend Devin died. Maybe because there’s something that no one knows about the overdose. But when he jumps in the crowd to defend a woman at one of his concerts, he finds he doesn’t want to keep the secret from her.
Mia was a tight little ball of fire, and I was made of combustible material. She misunderstood my intentions the night we met, but I was given an opportunity to explain the next day. I wish that was our only miscommunication, but when I discovered she’d written an inflammatory article about Just Short of Chaos, I thought she was using me to get a story. The hurt that caused made me say some nasty things. Now I may have lost her forever.
Mia Love doesn’t know if Rafe is truly interested in her, or if she is merely a new plaything for him.
Oh, there was definitely a heat between us from day one. Sometimes volatile, sometimes scorching in a good way. But I’d been burnt before and I was stronger now. No way was I going to let a rock star break my heart.
When fate throws them together again, things really start to heat up.
But will they figure out how to control their passions or will their love story end in ashes?
What have you been wanting to read?
This book looks really exciting, as Ms. Schiller sounds so much fun in her interview above, I can’t wait to read what her stories are like!
Is this on your TBR or have you already read it? What’s your ‘Can’t wait for’ book? Do let me know in the comments below. Thank you!

Thank you so much for having me!
You’re very welcome! It’s a pleasure. 🙂
Great to meet the Sassy Brit and learn a bit more about MJ. Well done!
Thank you! Nice to meet you too. 🙂
Thanks for participating, Kathleen! Hope your week gets started off with a bang! 🙂
A saucepan!!! How funny! But I hear you on returning things…it takes me forever, too! Thanks for sharing the book!
That made me laugh too! But when I thought about it, I do a similar thing! haha.
Nice to hear I am not alone! If I accomplished even a third of what I intended to do, I’d get so much done! But, alas, intending and doing are completely different things…. Thanks for stopping in, Kara! Hope you have a nice day!
