Lucky in Love.
That’s the name of the dating app I picked, hoping to find Mr. Better Than Average so I can hold off planning my future as a cat lady.
I’ve been distracted eyeballing a tall, dark, and handsome Latin hottie who works in the library with me. He is way out of my league, and a woman has needs if you know what I mean.
Finding a man shouldn’t be hard when all I have to do is swipe left or right. It’ll weed out the slimy men who have Bad Date written all over them.
Yeah, I’m learning quickly that I’m rather unlucky in love after all. The men I pick need warning labels, kissing lessons, and a good talking-to about manners.
Should I throw in the towel, or will this series of bad dates be exactly what I need to win Mr. Right?

GUEST POST
Sassy Brit : “Hi AJ Renee!
What were your top ten pictures for inspiration when you were writing Unlucky in Love?”
AJ Renee: Many authors scour the internet for inspiration. Downloading and saving various images for a project they’re working on. I rarely do this to be honest. This was incredibly hard for me to put together because I use memories as inspiration a lot of the time. Some things I have to search for if I’ve never been, but a lot of it is something I’ve seen at one point in time.
The library where Izzy works is inspired by the John C Hitt library at the University of Central Florida. The main library as students refer to it. I used to work at both the copy services office and circulation desk while I worked on my degrees. Many things have changed in the last twelve plus years, but the reflection pond in front of the library is as beautiful as ever. The library was a center piece before they expanded the entire campus and eventually made the Student Union to be the center of campus. As a student we joked that UCF stood for Under Construction Forever. Even to this day when we make it home to visit, I can be comforted by the fact that the university is taking care of quite a few construction families.

I lived in Las Vegas before the military had our family transferred to Illinois a year and a half ago. There are pieces of Unlucky in Love that are set around the city. I love people watching and Fremont street in downtown Las Vegas was a favorite place to go. Street performers and tourist kept the conversations going as the drinks kept flowing.
Typically, I don’t search for models when creating my characters. I happened to come across the Puerto Rican model Mario Rodriguez and wow… Why ruin a good thing? I kept the name and my story’s Mario as tall, dark, and handsome as the real-life man.
Las Vegas like Orlando gives the locals the joy of having entertainment nearby without the necessity of being in the thick of it. Where we lived in Vegas, we had beautiful views of the strip. We didn’t frequent it much unless there was a concert or show we wanted to see.
I hope you enjoy a glimpse of real-life places that represent locations of scenes in Unlucky in Love.
