Welcome! I’m delighted to welcome back, Callie Carmen with a ‘Music Monday’ themed guest post!
MUSIC MONDAY
I’ve also chosen to cross post my Monday “Movie” Book Trailer Swap with the lovely lady Lauren @AlwaysMe (blog) @SunSoar25 (Twitter), the English gentleman, fine and dandy Drew @The Tattooed Book Geek (blog) @SarcasticEnigma (Twitter) and musical maestro Mischenko @readrantrockandroll.com (blog) @J_Mischenko (Twitter). Here are the rules:
Every Monday share one or two of songs you’ve been enjoying lately. It doesn’t have to be a specific genre, new, or one of your favourites – just something you’d like to share with others. If possible, share a music or lyric video of the song and your thoughts on the song(s), artist(s), and/or music video(s).

Music and Writing ~ #MusicMonday
by Callie Carmen
Sassy Brit, Thank you for having me as a guest on your exciting blog.
Music has always played a big part of my family’s lives. From childhood piano lessons to school band, lead roles in musicals, a rock band, and writing and producing songs for video games. It felt natural for me to include music in each of my books. When you read my novels, you notice that I have scenes with characters attending concerts and going out dancing. They also have situations in their lives that make them think of a song that feels like what they’re going through.
In my latest novel, Joshua (Book Five Risking Love), there were four situations where songs fit perfectly with the storyline. So I had no choice, I had to mention those four songs.
Olivia told Bella and friends about the dragon lady that her boss was dating. The woman was known as the ‘Maneater’ because she mirrored the female character’s actions in the Daryl Hall & John Oates song. Like the song, the maneater went from powerful, wealthy man to powerful, wealthy man. She’d taken all that they were willing to give in the form of expensive jewelry, cars, and even positions on prestigious company boards. Once a man wanted more than a pretty thing on their arm and started talking marriage, she’d moved on to the next victim.
“Maneater”
Bella wore a polka dot bikini on her date with Joshua. It covered very little of her gorgeous figure. It reminded him of the song the “Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini” that his mother used to play from her antique forty-five record collection. It made Joshua’s heart smile.
“Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini”
The two women that were in love with Josh were in his truck with him at the same time. The song “I’ll Be The Moon” by Dierks Bentley with Marian Morris came on the radio. It had made Bella’s skin crawl. The woman in the song loved the man she was with, but she cared for another man too. To have her when she could, he agreed to keep their relationship a secret. It made Bella wonder about her and Ava. Could Josh have been with Ava all along and Bell was the dirty little secret? Or was Bell the one he cared most for, and Ava just found out how much Josh cared?
“I’ll Be The Moon”
When Bella walked into her friend’s wedding, the DJ was playing the song that had tortured her all week, “Nobody But You” by Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani. Blake was singing about his love and the saying, “If you love someone, let them go. If they come back to you, they were really yours, but if they don’t come back, they were never actually yours.” In Blake’s song, he didn’t agree with that saying. He loved her and wanted her forever. So many times, Bell and Ava had wished Josh would have said those words to her.
“Nobody But You”
Blurb JOSHUA (Book Five Risking Love)

Bella spent the last year with a man that barely touched her. It was high time that she got some hot, passionate sex. The only problem was it couldn’t be with just anybody. It had to be with someone special.
Should she choose the gorgeous club owner? Or the mysterious, sexy businessman? Which of them would let her explore a secret desire for a little non-vanilla passion in and out of the bedroom?
Joshua is the fifth novel in the Risking Love series. The stories chart a group of friends through life and love. These steamy stories will have you laughing, crying, and your heart racing.

I loved how Callie Carmen weaved music into her Joshua book. I’ve read it. I got the paperback as soon as it came out because I’m hooked on her series. Thanks for the great interview! Keep writing, Callie.
Hi Rita,
Thank you. I’m so glad you enjoyed Joshua and the blog. Have a lovely day.
Callie
I have always liked the song Maneater. It certainly fit well with Olivia’s story. Veronica is very much like the character in that song. Polka Dot Bikini is another fun song that I’ve always enjoyed. The musical component is a fun part of this story. I enjoyed the musical walk down memory lane as I hadn’t heard either of these songs in quite a while.
Laurie
Hi Laurie,
Thank you. Same goes for me. I loved looking up these oldies and listening to them on youtube.com.
