HAPPY FRIDAY!

Well, we’re certainly moving forward with GROTTY GOODNESS with this week’s Book Beginning and Friday56 choice…

Continuing with my ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ Friday Theme (here’s last Friday’s post) I am now on to the next book in the series…

The Incomplete History of Secret Organizations: An Utterly Unreliable Account of Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events on Alternative-Read.com

Why? I received the lovely book The Incomplete History of Secret Organizations by Joe Tracz (book pictured above) to review and realised I just had to watch the Netflix TV series, which I am now doing, at the same time as reading all the books!

So without further ado… I present…

My First Thoughts?

I’m whizzing through these terrible tales of woe! The Grim Grotto sounds very Christmassy, although, the front cover is of the Baudelaires underwater! But don’t you think the black and white drawing looks a bit like Santa’s sleigh? Or is that just me and my never-ending love of Christmas.

Do I need to remind you I do have a Christmas Facebook page and small group for Christmas books and die-hard fans of the snowy season?  Not sure this one fits there yet, but Grotto to me sounds very Santa!

Although, it could be more like a very damp, mildew covered John McClane adventure…

Dear Reader,

In The Grim Grotto

Warning: Your day will become very dark–and possibly damp–if you read this book.

Plan to spend this spring in hiding. Lemony Snicket is back with the eleventh book in his New York Timesbestselling A Series of Unfortunate Events.

Lemony Snicket’s saga about the charming, intelligent and grossly unlucky Baudelaire orphans continues to provoke suspicion and despair in readers the world over. In the eleventh and most alarming volume yet in the bestselling phenomenon A Series of Unfortunate Events, the intrepid siblings delve further into the dark mystery surrounding the death of their parents and the baffling VFD organisation.

With all due respect,

Lemony Snicket

Are you unlucky enough to own all 13 adventures? Yep, I am going to bore you share my Lemony Snicket love and devotion — ten more times! You lucky things, you! If you don’t want to read them all by then, well, I give up! lol

Book 1 – The Bad Beginning (The Friday 56 post).

Book 2 – The Reptile Room (last Friday’s Friday56 Post)

Book 3 – The Wide Window  (last Friday56 post)

Book 4 – The Miserable Mill (last Friday’s Friday56 post)

Book 5 – The Austere Academy (My Friday’s Friday56 post)

Book 6 – The Ersatz Elevator (My Friday56 post)

Book 7 – The Vile Village (My Friday56 Post)

Book 8 – The Hostile Hospital (My Friday56 Post)

Book 9 – The Carnivorous Carnival (My Friday56 Post)

Book 10 – The Slippery Slope (My Friday56 Post)

Book 11 – The Grim Grotto

Book 12 – The Penultimate Peril

Book 13 – The End

And what about All the Wrong Questions? In this four-book series a 13-year-old Lemony chronicles his dangerous and puzzling apprenticeship in a mysterious organisation that nobody knows anything about:

‘Who Could That Be at This Hour?’

‘When Did you Last See Her?’

‘Shouldn’t You Be in School?’

‘Why is This Night Different from All Other Nights?’

Lemony Snicket was born before you were and is likely to die before you as well. He was born in a small town where the inhabitants were suspicious and prone to riot. He grew up near the sea and currently lives beneath it. Until recently, he was living somewhere else.

Brett Helquist was born in Ganado, Arizona, grew up in Orem, Utah, and now lives in New York City. He earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Brigham Young University and has been illustrating ever since. His art has appeared in many publications, including Cricket magazine and The New York Times.

HAVE YOU READ THIS SERIES?

Is the beginning making you wonder what the rest of the story will be like?

  1. Carla – Canada – I am a retired teacher/librarian. I love to read, especially to my grandchildren. I read most genres, but lately have gravitated to cozy mysteries, romance (not erotic) and Christian Fiction. I do enjoy a good thriller every now and then, as well as some fantasy and the odd sci-fi. I have ventured into Blog tours, but I do not do well reading under pressure. I travel to Florida for 2 to 3 months in the winter (Canadian Snowbirder) but otherwise live in Windsor, Ontario Canada. Feel free to follow and comment on my blog. I try to respond to all comments.

Great post Sassy. I have the first 7, but have only read the first 3. I want to read them with my grandson, but he only 5, so not quite yet. You have convinced me to buy the rest, so I will be watching for them.
