The Girlfriend #TheFriday56 #BookBeginnings

The Friday 56 (With Instagram 56 & Book Beginnings)

The Girlfriend by Michelle Frances

is my feature book for the #Friday56 Bookish Meme with Freda. I’m also taking part in Book Beginnings, a weekly meme hosted by Rose City Reader.

Here are a couple of sentences from page 56:

Cherry had already invented something she had to get away for – meeting a couple of friends for drinks – and had told her mum on the phone before she’d even arrived. She surreptitiously checked her watch.

Book Beginnings:

I love my son. That was all that counted. It didn’t matter that she was about to do something heinous.

  1. I had to read the opening a couple of times because it seemed as if the author was referring to her son as “she.” Guess I’ll have to read the book to find out what’s going on!
My Friday post features The Secret Wife.

    1. I like the way it’s made you both think about it!

    1. It does all become clear, but it’s great to get you thinking about it… 🙂

    1. Certainly does! LOL Hope your weekend was fun!

  2. duskrider3740 – I am a 38 year old wife and mother of 2 children, one of which is mildly Autistic. I'm a stay-at-home homeschool teacher for that little one of mine. I love to read, trying to fit in a book a day, in between school sessions and running to therapy appointments. I also enjoy cooking, crochet, and PC gaming, be it in am MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) or a simple cooking simulation game. Some of my favorite MMOs include World of Warcraft, City of Heroes, and RIFT.

I’m with everyone else on this, I thought the author was referring to her son as a girl! Happy reading!

I’ve been eyeing The Girl Friend, but haven’t yet found it on Amazon. Oh, found it today, but not releasing here until January 1, 2018! Long wait. Enjoy! Thanks for visiting my blog.

    1. Wow! That is a long wait. Must be here in the UK first then. Thank you, too!

    1. Part of me thinks the mother is a little bit to blame… a teeny weeny bit…

I haven’t heard of The Girlfriend yet so when I read the book beginning, I thought you typed “she” incorrectly. Apparently, you didn’t. Now I want to find out more about this book! Thank you for visiting my blog by the way.

    1. It’s definitely best read in context with the rest of the paragraph, but this did what I hoped and got people talking lol 🙂 Thanks for commenting, too!

  5. I was also scratching my head! This one has definitely caught my interest. Thanks so much for sharing it. 🙂

    1. You’re welcome. Thanks for popping by!

  6. That little tag line makes me think this would make a good Lifetime movie. Also kind of wondering if this book centers the “she” or the mother. Hope you enjoy your week!

    1. Thank you, Alicia! You too!
