The Friday 56 (With Instagram 56 & Book Beginnings)
Read my review of this book here!
To some this may not be particularly scary in itself, but please humour me and allow me to describe the context. I’ve got a postbox out the front of my house because one of my dogs always used to chew anything that came through our door. Books included! (I know, sacrilege!) Last week, I dipped my hand in and pulled out a massive spider. I didn’t know this straight away until I brought my post inside and sorted through it. Now, let’s get one thing clear, I’m (shit) scared of spiders. So much so, I will say I have a real phobia when it comes to arachnids. Needless to say now I will not get my own post out of the postbox, and have to wait for my husband to come to do it for me. Lame, I know. But I just cannot do it. LOL
Anyway, it was late, just gone midnight, I was tired and about to go to bed when I remembered I hadn’t checked the post (meaning I hadn’t reminded my hubby to retrieve it for me), so he kindly brought one parcel in and watched me open it…
And out slips this weird photo of two young girls with their faces scratched off. No book title. No immediate signs of what it is. We’re tired and not thinking straight. WTF? Thanks Headline Books. I almost had to change my knickers…
Well, let me say — whoever is in charge of #MySister marketing plan, has got this down to a T — as they say. Spot on. I love it! Just like I am really into edgy, crazy-girl, psychological thrillers at the moment.
My Sister by Michelle Adams is my feature book for this Friday 56 Meme. I’m also taking part in Book Beginnings, a weekly meme hosted by Rose City Reader.
An edgy, crazy-girl, psychological thriller. On my Goodreads bookshelf aptly titled : One of those crazy girl books. (Crazy as in psycho!)
Here are a couple of sentences from page 56:
“Yes they are. I remember the day you came sliding out of the dead woman in the very next room.”
“The buzzing of my telephone is like the scuttling of a cockroach underneath the bed.”
*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader
(If you have to improvise, that’s ok.)
*Find any sentence, (or few, just don’t spoil it)
*Add your (url) post below in Linky. Add the post url, not your blog url.
*It’s that simple.

That is one freaky cover! And the whole spider in the mailbox thing…definitely phobia-enhancing. Thanks for sharing, though, and now I want to know more about the book.
Thanks for visiting my blog.
Glad I’ve intrigued you, Laurel! See you next week!
Spiders, yuck. Hate them too. Then you come up with cockroaches. LOL

I know, it’s all sounding rather horrid, but it fits! Thanks for visiting! 🙂
Eeek! I am definitely scared! It sounds like quite a thriller and I hope that it is one you enjoy. I definitely have a touch of arachnophobia myself! 🙂
Absolutely a thriller – psychological – and a fast read! Really enjoyed it. Thanks for your comment. See you next week!
Your post is so well-written that I thought it was the book’s beginning. That’s quite a story in itself! The cover of My Sister is definitely eye-catching, and the plot sounds psycho-scary. I hope you enjoy it.
My Friday post features The Pecan Man.
Thank you for your kind words, Sandra! That’s so nice of you to say. I’m popping over now! 🙂 Thanks for visiting my bookshelves here!
OMG. I would never read that book. I am scared by your two quotes, imagine how frightened I’d be my the book? No way. (Plus it comes with a spider story.

Sorry to scare you, Anne lol Thanks for your comment. Much appreciated! Looking forward to reading more of your blog!
Interesting cover, makes me want to delve between the pages, although I am not too keen on the cockroach analogy. 🙂
Hope you enjoy My Sister. Thanks for sharing and visiting my blog.
Hi Nadane! You are very welcome! Thank you for coming back and leaving a comment here. Looking forward to Friday!
I love your post and that book! Must have it. Spiders freak me out and we have some huge ones here in the south. My mailbox has a door on either end and I never open it from the back. I came across a spider there once and never had the nerve to open it that way again. LOL

Thanks for your kind words, Laura! OMG, yes, I totally hear you – I’m a big baby when it comes to spiders and I’ll happily admit it. Saves embarrassment later lol
Ha, we have spiders in our box all the time too. I always check before reaching in, and I won’t do so after dark. Don’t want to irritate a red back.
Hi Nicki! Thanks for visiting here. Oh yes, I’m such a cry baby when it comes to spiders and we don’t have redbacks here! (As far as I’m aware… please don’t tell me any different lol).
I wouldn’t be getting my mail any more after something like that!

A girl after my own heart – that job now belongs to my husband lol. Thanks for commenting! I tried to comment on your post, but it said blogger i-frame (?) is temporarily down or may have been moved… not sure what that even means.
How unnerving, I love it! And that 56 has me sold. I’m going to look this one up on Goodreads right now.
Fantastic, Alicia My job is done. 😀
Thanks for commenting! See you Friday!
Sounds like a thrilling read. Thanks for sharing 🙂

Seeing this book after the spider would have me spooked too… lol…. quite a funny story though to read your experience retrieving it. 🙂 Welcome back to the 56!! Happy weekend!
Thanks, Freda! Really enjoying it. 56! That is, not the spiders… Hope you had a great weekend! x
Sorry to freak you out with the My Sister cover and the mention of cockroaches on line one! But I’m so glad that you enjoyed the book and felt happy to share it with your readers! Much appreciated!
