A sparkling feel-good comedy, which asks the question – how far would you go to get your child the must-have Christmas toy?

It’s December 1992, and children are going crazy for the Tracy Island toy – almost as crazy as the parents! Christmas day is fast approaching and Coco Pinchard is desperately trying to track one down for her four-year-old son Rosencrantz.

From dodgy dealings in a motorway lay-by, to extreme shopping in Hamley’s with a Sylvanian Families fanatic, to having a go at the Blue Peter make-your-own Tracy Island, Coco tries everything in the hope that four-year-old Rosencrantz will open his must-have toy on Christmas morning.

My Review:

A Very Coco Christmas (Coco Pinchard, #0.5)A Very Coco Christmas by Robert Bryndza

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

In A Very Coco Christmas by author Robert Bryndza, we’re introduced to Coco Pinchard and her new boyfriend Daniel. It’s a couple of days before Christmas and there’s a turkey on the loose, so Christmas dinner has gone walkabout. To avert a Christmas dinner disaster both families must now meet for the first time, but they come from very different backgrounds and Coco is not sure they’ll meet eye-to-eye.

Are they jumping out of the turkey roaster, into the fiery pits of tinsel hell?

This short novella is the prequel to the series of several full sized novels featuring Coco Pinchard, and it we a hilarious read! The fact that Christmas dinner, was a turkey called, Jean Paul Belmondo was one of the funniest examples!

“We split up and searched the length of the road out front, and the neighbours’ gardens calling out, Jean Paul Belmondo,’ like a bunch of depressed fans of French new wave cinema”.

There are so many laugh out loud moments I’d like to share it would be hard to tell you them all without sharing the whole book, so you’ll just have to read it yourself to find out more!

Although, I’m not sure it’s a good thing to admit this, I secretly loved the references to tinned fruit cocktail, condensed milk and pudding. (Not all on the same plate, of course!) I was also pretty pleased to see my family aren’t the only ones to walk through back doors calling out, “cooooeeeeeey?” to announce our arrival. I did it for years until someone (not related to my family) pointed out how ridiculous we sounded LOL Yes, I feel this had a lot of very British humour within.

This is a funny, Christmas romance set in the 80s. (I caught this fact, because of the mention of ‘Michael Foot’s potty policies, and the 83% tax rate’ discussion!)

From dates with a gravedigger’s assistant to lost bracelets and “having to root around four hundred turkeys’ arses while screaming the house down,” A Very Coco Christmas is a laugh-a-minute!
