HAPPY FRIDAY!

Forget this week’s Book Beginning and Friday56 choice…scroll down see the beauty you’ll all be yearning for…

Continuing with my ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ Friday Theme (here’s last Friday’s post) I am now on to the next book in the series…

The Incomplete History of Secret Organizations: An Utterly Unreliable Account of Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events on Alternative-Read.com

Why and I torturing you all with this lengthy series every Friday? Because I received the lovely book The Incomplete History of Secret Organizations by Joe Tracz (book pictured above) to review and realised I just had to watch the Netflix TV series, which I was doing at the same time as reading the books. But then, because there are subtle differences between the series on the telly and the books, I decided to stop watching the series until I’ve read all the books first.

So without further ado… I present…

HOTTER!

My First Thoughts?

Once again the displeasing and disenchanting lives of the Baudelaire orphans is coming up trumps for me!  And what could be more fun than watching these kids endlessly suffer? lol  It’s a beast of a series.

Talking of which, this book has lots of beastly expressions in it, and quite rightly so, since this episode is about a stomach-churning carnivorous beast (Count Olaf?), and Chabo the Wolf Baby, no less.

In this the Baudelaires disguise themselves as freak volunteers for the Carnival’s freak show, Violet and Klaus as a two-headed humanoid ‘Beverly’ and ‘Elliot’, and Sunny as ‘Chabo the Wolf Baby’, a supposed half-wolf.

Yep, I’m truly turning into a sadist knowing I’ll enjoy every minute of their unfortunate story…But how will it all end? I cannot wait to find out!

BINGO!

OMG! Look at this!

Mind you, I can’t see anyone being able to afford this, but isn’t this dust jacket collection simply a dream for any fan who can!!!??? *Envious sigh*

This is for the serious adult collector. See, you thought I was the crazy one! (Well, maybe I am, but that’s not the point!).

I’d love and care for it so much, I’d have to sleep with it every night if it belonged to me.

Only I wouldn’t since that would curl up the edges and ruin the whole collection! (Shudder).

I’d even take pictures of it from my phone, so I could show everyone my babies when I go to work meetings.

I’d feed it, and water it, and take it for walks every day! Promise!

Picture credits belong to Juniper Books, who have now got me falling in love with them. Can I marry you? It doesn’t matter I’m already married, he’ll never know! Shush!

SCORCHIO!

Dear Reader,

You have undoubtedly picked up this book by mistake, so please put it down. Nobody in their right mind would read this particular book about the lives of Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire on purpose, because each dismal moment of their stay in the village of V.F.D. has been faithfully and dreadfully recorded in these pages.

I can think of no single reason why anyone would want to open a book containing such unpleasant matters as migrating crows, an angry mob, a newspaper headline, the arrest of innocent people, the Deluxe Cell, and some very strange hats. It is my solemn and sacred occupation to research each detail of the Baudelaire children’s lives and write them all down, but you may prefer to do some other solemn and sacred thing, such as reading another book instead.

In  The Carnivorous Carnival–

Everybody loves a carnival! Who can fail to delight in the colourful people, the unworldly spectacle, the fabulous freaks?

A carnival is a place for good family fun—as long as one has a family, that is. For the Baudelaire orphans, their time at the carnival turns out to be yet another episode in a now unbearable series of unfortunate events. In fact, in this appalling ninth installment in Lemony Snicket’s serial, the siblings must confront a terrible lie, a caravan, and Chabo the wolf baby.

With millions of readers worldwide, and the Baudelaire’s fate turning from unpleasant to unseemly, it is clear that Lemony Snicket has taken nearly all the fun out of children’s books.

With all due respect,

Lemony Snicket

Are you unlucky enough to own all 13 adventures? Yep, I am going to bore you share my Lemony Snicket love and devotion — ten more times! You lucky things, you! If you don’t want to read them all by then, well, I give up! lol

Book 1 – The Bad Beginning (The Friday 56 post).

Book 2 – The Reptile Room (last Friday’s Friday56 Post)

Book 3 – The Wide Window  (last Friday56 post)

Book 4 – The Miserable Mill (last Friday’s Friday56 post)

Book 5 – The Austere Academy (My Friday’s Friday56 post)

Book 6 – The Ersatz Elevator (My Friday56 post)

The Vile Village (My Friday56 Post)

The Hostile Hospital (My Friday56 Post)

The Carnivorous Carnival

The Slippery Slope

The Grim Grotto

The Penultimate Peril

The End

And what about All the Wrong Questions? In this four-book series a 13-year-old Lemony chronicles his dangerous and puzzling apprenticeship in a mysterious organisation that nobody knows anything about:

‘Who Could That Be at This Hour?’

‘When Did you Last See Her?’

‘Shouldn’t You Be in School?’

‘Why is This Night Different from All Other Nights?’

Lemony Snicket was born before you were and is likely to die before you as well. He was born in a small town where the inhabitants were suspicious and prone to riot. He grew up near the sea and currently lives beneath it. Until recently, he was living somewhere else.

Brett Helquist was born in Ganado, Arizona, grew up in Orem, Utah, and now lives in New York City. He earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Brigham Young University and has been illustrating ever since. His art has appeared in many publications, including Cricket magazine and The New York Times.

    1. Fantastic, Freda! Since I discovered your comment from 20 days ago – whoops! Were you able to get to read it yet?

  3. The part about sawing holes in the rental canoe made me laugh and wince at the same time. Guess that pretty much sums up the series.

Sounds like you are having a blast with it. Enjoy the rest.
