THE CRUEL PRINCE
By HOLLY BLACK
The author of The Spiderwick Chronicles (with Tony DiTerlizzi) amongst other titles!
Blurb:
And Cardan is even more beautiful than the rest. I hate him more than all the others. I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe.
Jude was seven years old when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality. But many of the fey despise humans. Especially Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King.
To win a place at the Court, she must defy him–and face the consequences.
In doing so, she becomes embroiled in palace intrigues and deceptions, discovering her own capacity for bloodshed. But as civil war threatens to drown the Courts of Faerie in violence, Jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters, and Faerie itself.

Brilliant! You’re welcome. Thank you, too!
This sounds great. I can’t wait to read it. This week I’m reading Crimson Death by Laurell K. Hamilton from my TBR mountain. Happy reading!
Hi Kathy! Yours sounds intriguing, too! I’ve read some of Laurell’s books! But not in a while.
This would be outside the realm of my normal reading boundaries, but I’m very intrigued. I’m jotting it down on the list…
That is great news, Roberta! Glad I’ve got you intrigued!!! 🙂
I’m a fan of Holly Black’s other books about fairies. So The Cruel Prince is already on my TBR list.
That’s great news, Breana! Do pop back and link up with your review when you do read it. I love seeing what other people thought of the books I’ve read!

Thank you, Freda! Have a great time yourself!! x
Hi Sass,
I have to admit that I am neither a huge fan of either fantasy books or YA fiction, so it will be a very rare occasion when you see me feature a book from either genre.
All that said, a few years ago now, I did become quite addicted to the beginning of a YA fantasy series, which unfortunately had to be curtailed due to a change in the author’s personal circumstances. The ‘Moon Realm’ series by Richard Due, was really very good and I even managed a quote and link in the acknowledgments of the second episode!
I like the cover art version you chose to feature, as for me, the author has chosen very dark and almost menacing covers for the other books she has written and I wonder whether this is what YA readers are really drawn to?
The poem really was chosen with thought and care though and fits perfectly.
Thanks for sharing and if we don’t speak again beforehand – have a Very Happy Christmas 🙂
Yvonne
Hi Yvonne! Thank you for your lovely long reply. I wonder if Richard Due’s stories are still available. They sound fun.
I think dark and menacing does appeal to many.
Have a lovely Christmas too! X
