The Claiming Law was instituted after most of the world’s women were killed with a monstrous virus. Callie Callahan has no intention of submitting to either the law or the men who think of women as simply sexual possessions. So she hides on the property of her true love, Luke. Their reunion is under less than pleasant circumstances and sets in motion an incredible period of learning for both of them.

The incidents which bring Luke Outlaw and the woman who owns his heart back together are just the beginning of the surprises in store for both of them. But with the help of his brothers, Callie will no longer be subject to the new law. He just has to prepare her for the intense sexual situations which will follow, but he’s more than man enough for the job.

I am so glad that we live in this time; I wouldn’t make it in the one described in this book. I found this not only an intense read full of despair, hope, horrendous conditions, love and passion—there are the characters and the insight with which they are portrayed. There are men who lose their humanity, those who remain “human” and women of such incredible strength that you just have to applaud how Ms. Springer has woven it all together into a read which not just entertains, but encourages us to think how we might react as well. These are definitely in the re-read category on my shelf.
