Michael Blog Post for Callie Carmen on #AltRead

Welcome Guest Author Callie Carmen!

Thank you, Sassy Brit, for having me as a guest on your wonderful Alternative-Read blog. I’m happy to share a piece of my latest novel, Michael, with all of you.

In Michael, I wrote about two of the parties that Olivia had to attend during the holidays. One ended up being an uncomfortable situation for her. The other was a disaster. However, the two locations where the parties took part were lovely. I have included an excerpt from Michael from the one that took place at the elegant Lovett Hall, including photos.

Excerpt from Michael
By Callie Carmen

I’d been to the Henry Ford Museum several times over the years, but this was the first time I had been invited to an event in the elegant Lovett Hall. The lobby, with its marble floors high crown molded ceilings, was lovely. But the grand staircase was marvelous and had me deep in thought imagining Michael and myself with our wedding party taking photographs there. Lost in my thoughts, I didn’t notice Violet and Bella come up alongside me. In stereo, the two of them softly hummed “Here Comes The Bride” in my ears. I elbowed them both, and they giggled.

I scanned the room and thanked God when I saw Michael off to the side talking with Joseph, a director at Ford, and Joshua, a vice president at Ford. “You stinkers are lucky Michael wasn’t next to me during your duet.”

“Right, because we wouldn’t want him to know what you were thinking now, would we?”

I stuck my tongue out at Violet.

A voice that made my skin crawl interrupted us. “Look, ladies, you can dress Olive up, but you can’t take her out. I mean, who sticks their tongue out at a black tie affair.” Her fake laugh echoed off the walls of the great hall until she reached an older gentleman. They locked elbows and walked off into the ballroom.

“Dragon lady.” My friends said in unison.

I bobbed my head. “Yes, that’s Veronica.”

Michael, Joseph, and Joshua were by our sides in seconds. Michael must have told the guys that his ex was talking to me. “Are you okay, babe?”

There was no way I was letting him know the maneater was making me feel sick. This was what I had been afraid of, Veronica being here and possibly telling Michael that she loved him.

“I’m great. This building is wonderful.”

Bella’s eyes were bulging. I was sure she wanted me to tell Michael what Veronica had done. That wasn’t going to happen.

“Ever since I read an article about how Henry Ford built the ballroom to hold the dances he and his wife Clara hosted, I have been dying to see it. Let’s go see.” I nodded at Violet and Bella. They took the hint.

“Let’s go,” they agreed.

The ballroom was massive. The crystal chandeliers, teak floors, and enormous fireplaces were magnificent. An orchestra was playing, and several couples were dancing. The beauty of it all lifted my spirits.

Book 1 PATRICK: books2read.com/u/3krqEW Jaq had no interest in a serious relationship because life at an early age had taught her that men weren’t to be trusted. But she wasn’t expecting to meet Patrick the man that might convince her to risk her heart and virginity.

Patrick wasn’t the only man who wanted Jaq, and the other man was willing to kill to have her.

Book 2 NICOLAS: http://books2read.com/u/mqVGQv  Carlie planned to finish at the top of her class, get a corporate job, and work her way up the ladder. She refused to risk having a life of poverty ever again. Within her plans, there was no room for a relationship. So she had sworn off men; especially the good Dr. Nicolas Antonis.

Nicolas had other plans. They included her becoming his.

As if Nicolas wasn’t a big enough distraction; Carlie had to worry about her roommate’s, abusive ex-boyfriend, coming for her too.

  1. F Burn – I am an erotic romance author based in London. I began writing songs and poetry in my youth, but after graduating with a degree in psychology, I developed an interest in writing tales which explored the dark side of the human psyche. My debut novel, Secret Love and short story, The Substitute (featured in the Dark Desire Anthology), is available to read now. When she is not writing, she spends most of her time reading dystopian novels, watching sci-fi horror movies, painting, making jewellery, photography, astronomy and astrology. She also enjoys going for long walks, playing table tennis and cooking. If you would like to know more about F.Burn, please visit my website: https://fburnauthor.wixsite.com/books

Great blog! I love the way you described the setting – I can see Lovett Hall as if I were there myself.

  2. Richard Savage – Chatteris, UK – I was born in the north England in 1962. I have been a figurative artist for twenty years and strive to make my art work challenging and thought provoking. My work is diverse and I aim to capture something of the celebration of life in all its wonderful shades. I currently work from my Cambridgeshire studio, also giving art and life drawing classes. My background is in illustration, fine art and technical drawing. I work mainly in acrylics, but am also happy working in oils, pastels, line and wash, watercolour and mixed media. I draw inspiration from classical art, and the styles of the contemporary artists Boris Vallejo and Jack Vettriano.

Great Blog post Brit, it is a great book by Callie Carmen, loved the book and loved the series so sad it has come to an end. On the up side, a good book from an author, is rather like a good meal… it just leaves you hungry for the next meal….

  3. Carol Schoenig – love to read romance stories. As I have aged and continued to read romance stories, I noticed that the characters don’t necessarily age. Talking with my friends and hearing them say they would like to read stories of people similar in age to them. But, what drew me to want to write Boomer Lit was the stories I heard from real people. People in their 60’s, 70’s and up getting married for the second or third time. In some cases might even be the first time. Love changes and the season of love in your twenties, thirties, etc. is different than love in your sixties or older. These are people who have lived life with all of its ups and downs and turns in the road. They’ve been through disappointment in love, unrequited love, loveless marriages and yet they still hope for that connection that soul mate who will love them as they are and know them like no one else. These same people still experience problems with falling in love. Children are not approving, financial risks and concerns about where to live or how to divide up property when they expire. I welcome you to tell me your story of how you met and fell in love whatever age you are. Thank you for visiting my site.  I look forward to getting to know you better. Carol

The setting is gorgeous, Callie. I can’t wait to add Michael to my readling list. Your characters are so romantic.

    1. Thank you, Carol. Yes, Lovett Hall is beautiful and the Henry Ford Museum is wonderful.
I’m so glad that you love the love between my characters.

    1. Thank you. I’m so happy that you enjoyed Michael. You aren’t that far away. If you do make it there be sure to go to the Ford Museum and to Greenfield Village❤️
