Welcome Guest Author Callie Carmen!
Thank you, Sassy Brit, for having me as a guest on your wonderful Alternative-Read blog. I’m happy to share a piece of my latest novel, Michael, with all of you.
In Michael, I wrote about two of the parties that Olivia had to attend during the holidays. One ended up being an uncomfortable situation for her. The other was a disaster. However, the two locations where the parties took part were lovely. I have included an excerpt from Michael from the one that took place at the elegant Lovett Hall, including photos.

Olivia
I’d been to the Henry Ford Museum several times over the years, but this was the first time I had been invited to an event in the elegant Lovett Hall. The lobby, with its marble floors high crown molded ceilings, was lovely. But the grand staircase was marvelous and had me deep in thought imagining Michael and myself with our wedding party taking photographs there. Lost in my thoughts, I didn’t notice Violet and Bella come up alongside me. In stereo, the two of them softly hummed “Here Comes The Bride” in my ears. I elbowed them both, and they giggled.
I scanned the room and thanked God when I saw Michael off to the side talking with Joseph, a director at Ford, and Joshua, a vice president at Ford. “You stinkers are lucky Michael wasn’t next to me during your duet.”
“Right, because we wouldn’t want him to know what you were thinking now, would we?”
I stuck my tongue out at Violet.
A voice that made my skin crawl interrupted us. “Look, ladies, you can dress Olive up, but you can’t take her out. I mean, who sticks their tongue out at a black tie affair.” Her fake laugh echoed off the walls of the great hall until she reached an older gentleman. They locked elbows and walked off into the ballroom.
“Dragon lady.” My friends said in unison.
I bobbed my head. “Yes, that’s Veronica.”
Michael, Joseph, and Joshua were by our sides in seconds. Michael must have told the guys that his ex was talking to me. “Are you okay, babe?”
There was no way I was letting him know the maneater was making me feel sick. This was what I had been afraid of, Veronica being here and possibly telling Michael that she loved him.
“I’m great. This building is wonderful.”
Bella’s eyes were bulging. I was sure she wanted me to tell Michael what Veronica had done. That wasn’t going to happen.
“Ever since I read an article about how Henry Ford built the ballroom to hold the dances he and his wife Clara hosted, I have been dying to see it. Let’s go see.” I nodded at Violet and Bella. They took the hint.
“Let’s go,” they agreed.
The ballroom was massive. The crystal chandeliers, teak floors, and enormous fireplaces were magnificent. An orchestra was playing, and several couples were dancing. The beauty of it all lifted my spirits.

Where to start? Try these two books in the Risking Love Series!
Book 1 PATRICK: books2read.com/u/3krqEW Jaq had no interest in a serious relationship because life at an early age had taught her that men weren’t to be trusted. But she wasn’t expecting to meet Patrick the man that might convince her to risk her heart and virginity.
Patrick wasn’t the only man who wanted Jaq, and the other man was willing to kill to have her.
Book 2 NICOLAS: http://books2read.com/u/mqVGQv Carlie planned to finish at the top of her class, get a corporate job, and work her way up the ladder. She refused to risk having a life of poverty ever again. Within her plans, there was no room for a relationship. So she had sworn off men; especially the good Dr. Nicolas Antonis.
Nicolas had other plans. They included her becoming his.
As if Nicolas wasn’t a big enough distraction; Carlie had to worry about her roommate’s, abusive ex-boyfriend, coming for her too.

What a lovely way to set a scene at the Ford ballroom. Very descriptive. I have my paperback copy of the book, but haven’t had a chance to read it yet. Can’t wait.
