Welcome to my Sassy Sunday Spotlight!

Today I am featuring author Patricia Elliott and her hero in her short story LOVE KNOWS NO APOCALYPSE which is in the supernatural anthology MYSTIC DESIRE

Welcome, Patricia! Which character is the hero in your short story Love Knows No Apocalypse?

Often you’ll hear people give out the names of the main characters, but I want to go in a different direction. I feel that the heroes of this story, despite a possibly gruesome death, are the zombies. Without them, our two main characters wouldn’t have ended up in a situation that made them rely on each other.

Which character did you have the most fun writing?

I enjoyed writing Samantha’s character. She’s strong, courageous and isn’t your average damsel in distress.

Which character surprised you?

I think Steve surprised me the most. Who would have thought that he’d be the Hawaiian shirt type?

Haha! If I were to ask Steve one question, what would it be and what would he answer?

Why would you choose to wear impractical clothes in an apocalypse?

His response would probably be, “life doesn’t have to stop being fun just because the world is crumbling around you.”

Will we be hearing anything more from Steve or other characters from Love Knows No Apocalypse?

I have no current plans to include them in any other story, but you never know what the future might bring.

When you write do you have any kind of routine or ritual to help you get started, especially when looking at a blank page?

It can be hard to get started in the morning. There are so many other things one could be doing other than writing, and sometimes I find myself getting lost in those; but, to get started, I’ll open up my story and re-read the last few paragraphs to reground myself in the story and then make sure I have my trusty Dr. Pepper sitting next to me. I’m not a morning person. *lol*

Next book?

My next book is called “Not You Again!” We don’t have a release date yet, but it is in the process of being published and should be released soon. Here’s the blurb:

“Emma Praught has everything a woman could wish for: a house, a husband, and a teen daughter who she wouldn’t trade for the world. But when she receives that fateful call, everything falls apart.

Her husband is dead. The life she knew is over. And before she has a chance to make sense of it all, death threats roll in and so does a man from her past. One she never expected to see again.

Devon Matthews, in the stupidity of his youth, broke the heart of the only woman he ever loved. Something he has never gotten over. Now he has a chance to make it up to her by protecting them. And maybe, just maybe, she’ll find it in her heart to forgive him. If he can keep her alive that is.

Will they make it through this unscathed, or will Emma’s stubborn nature make it difficult for them both?”

Where can we find out more?

  1. Carla – Canada – I am a retired teacher/librarian. I love to read, especially to my grandchildren. I read most genres, but lately have gravitated to cozy mysteries, romance (not erotic) and Christian Fiction. I do enjoy a good thriller every now and then, as well as some fantasy and the odd sci-fi. I have ventured into Blog tours, but I do not do well reading under pressure. I travel to Florida for 2 to 3 months in the winter (Canadian Snowbirder) but otherwise live in Windsor, Ontario Canada. Feel free to follow and comment on my blog. I try to respond to all comments.

Wonderful interview Sassy. I always enjoy hearing from the authors.

  2. Richard Savage – Chatteris, UK – I was born in the north England in 1962. I have been a figurative artist for twenty years and strive to make my art work challenging and thought provoking. My work is diverse and I aim to capture something of the celebration of life in all its wonderful shades. I currently work from my Cambridgeshire studio, also giving art and life drawing classes. My background is in illustration, fine art and technical drawing. I work mainly in acrylics, but am also happy working in oils, pastels, line and wash, watercolour and mixed media. I draw inspiration from classical art, and the styles of the contemporary artists Boris Vallejo and Jack Vettriano.
    Richard Savage says:

Yes great interview, thank you Sassy, and thank you Patricia, I am a big fan of your stories, very much looking forward to your next book. Not long to go now!

      1. Patricia Elliott – Patricia Elliott lives in Beautiful British Columbia with her family. Now that their lovely kids are all teenagers and older, she has decided to actively pursue her passion for the written word. When she was a youngster, she spent the majority of her time writing fan-fiction and poetry to avoid the harsh reality of bullying. Writing allowed her to escape into another world, even if temporarily; a world in which she could be anyone or anything, even a mermaid. Dreams really do come true. If you believe it, you can achieve it!
        Patricia Elliott says:

Can’t forget the Hawaiian shirts. They have flare and style. *lol* Thanks for commenting. I can’t wait to start reading your work.

  3. Hi Patricia and Brit,
Both of your stories sound great Patricia. I’m a big zombie fan, not because the dead are so fascinating in themselves, but more because of the effect that they have on the living. Sounds like Love Knows No Apocalypse is a perfect fit for me! I’ll be reading it very soon.

Thanks so much for commenting and reading 😀 I’ve always been a huge zombie fan or anything apocalyptic related.I’ve always wondered how our world would fair if everything went dark. I can’t wait to read all the stories in Mystic Desire.

    2. haha! Me too! I looked for a much brighter picture of a shirt, but that was the best one i could come up with, that was free to use… still looks fun!

  4. Carol Schoenig – love to read romance stories. As I have aged and continued to read romance stories, I noticed that the characters don’t necessarily age. Talking with my friends and hearing them say they would like to read stories of people similar in age to them. But, what drew me to want to write Boomer Lit was the stories I heard from real people. People in their 60’s, 70’s and up getting married for the second or third time. In some cases might even be the first time. Love changes and the season of love in your twenties, thirties, etc. is different than love in your sixties or older. These are people who have lived life with all of its ups and downs and turns in the road. They’ve been through disappointment in love, unrequited love, loveless marriages and yet they still hope for that connection that soul mate who will love them as they are and know them like no one else. These same people still experience problems with falling in love. Children are not approving, financial risks and concerns about where to live or how to divide up property when they expire. I welcome you to tell me your story of how you met and fell in love whatever age you are. Thank you for visiting my site.  I look forward to getting to know you better. Carol

    1. That’s too funny, Gibby… but I get where you’re coming from – some truth said in jest? LOL

  5. fuonlyknew – Voracious reader and love to do reviews. Will review yours! Love Doritos and chocolate. A fan of furry friends. I'm afraid of things that go bump in the night! I do reviews at request when time allows. Prefer print versions but also will do ebooks. If I can stand to let them go, I use some print review copies for giveaways.. Also like doing ARC reviews to promote authors and their books. I encourage authors to comment. My reviews are posted on my blog, Amazon, Goodreads, Shelfari, Smashwords and Barnes&Noble.
