Waiting on Wednesday / Can’t Wait Wednesday
Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted here, at Wishful Endings, and my version is a mix of what I’m waiting to read, whether it’s a new release that is not out yet, or an older book on my TBR shelf, which I really want to read but haven’t got around to it yet.
Here’s my ‘Can’t wait to read’, book for this week:
From Amazon UK ~ Amazon USA
THE NUMBER ONE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER
WINNER OF THE COSTA NOVEL AWARD 2018
WINNER OF THE SPECSAVERS NATIONAL BOOKS AWARD 2018 (International Author)
LONGLISTED FOR THE MAN BOOKER PRIZE 2018
LONGLISTED FOR THE WOMEN’S PRIZE FOR FICTION 2019
‘The best novel published this year.’ The Times
Connell and Marianne grow up in the same small town in rural Ireland. The similarities end there; they are from very different worlds. When they both earn places at Trinity College in Dublin, a connection that has grown between them lasts long into the following years.
This is an exquisite love story about how a person can change another person’s life – a simple yet profound realisation that unfolds beautifully over the course of the novel. It tells us how difficult it is to talk about how we feel and it tells us – blazingly – about cycles of domination, legitimacy and privilege. Alternating menace with overwhelming tenderness, Sally Rooney’s second novel breathes fiction with new life.
#relationships #drama #life
Sally Rooney was born in County Mayo and lives in Dublin. Her writing has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times and The London Review of Books. She is the author of Conversations with Friends and winner of the Sunday Times/PFD Young Writer Award 2017. Her second novel Normal People was published in 2018 and longlisted for the Man Booker Prize. She is the editor of the biannual Dublin literary magazine The Stinging Fly.
What have you been wanting to read?
Yeah, I know I am a little late to this party but Normal People was the breakout literary novel of 2018, which saw its author hailed as the voice of a generation and crowned book of the year! So although it’s not a brand new book to feature I cannot wait to read it to see what all the fuss is about! I mean, BOOK OF THE YEAR is pretty BIG!
Just read above to see all the prizes this has won. Technically Sally Rooney won both the Fiction Book of the Year and the over all Book of the Year for her title Normal People. I can’t imagine how this author is feeling bagging these two (plus more) prestigious prizes! Which is exactly why I need to read this. Plus it is now being adapted for the TV by the BBC with Rooney writing the screenplay. She must be floating on air right now!
Is this on your TBR or have you already read it? is it an good, or just hype? What your ‘Can’t wait for’ book? Do let me know in the comments below. Thank you!
