HAPPY STAR WARS DAY!

Star Wars Day, May the 4th Be With You! No, that’s not a lisp. It’s a play on words…

I’m really excited about today being Star Wars Day , not for any particular reason, and definitely not because it also coincides with the British Local County Elections, of which there are so bloody many, I can hardly keep up. I’m just a huge Star Wars / Doctor Who nerdy fan, and this is right up my Galaxy.

A couple of my Star Wars Treasures!

Although, strangely, there is a bizarre connection between British politics and Star Wars and Milk. In short, when the Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher,  came into power in 1979, May 4th, just two years after the original Star Wars came out, a daily newspaper reportedly had the following headline:

“May the Fourth Be With You, Maggie. Congratulations.”

Which kind of stuck for a while, on and off.

Great photo!

Of course, not everyone was celebrating. And at the risk of getting too political on such a fun day, I have to mention that over the course of her reign of terror, I’ve never known a Prime Minister to have caused so much trouble: she destroyed the unions, she sold off all the national industries owned by England, sold all the council houses, and also earned the nickname Maggie Thatcher, Milk Snatcher (taking free milk from nursery school kids), to name but a few things on her delightful résumé. And at one point Britain was the closest to civil war we’d ever seen. Nice lady.

The force was definitely not with us then! Which brings me back to Star Wars.

When Disney bought Lucasfilm the official Star Wars Day became a massive commercial day for Lucasfilm merchandise. Usually, I’d say this sort of commercialisation is a bad thing, but it’s Star Wars, right? Yeah, I’m shallow.

“Do. Or do not. There is no try.”  Yoda (The Empire Strikes Back)

While you’re here, why not drop by and check out this Star Wars site where you can find some cool recipes for Star Wars “Blue Milk”.  Nope, we never had that when we were kids, either.

So there you have my Star Wars and politics and milk link up.

Who knew? Apart from me, and a few other billion (groaning) Star Wars fans…

Happy County Council Elections! May the 4th be with you

My son and I were recently discussing whether we’d seen all of the movies. I do love Star Wars. Sorry If I’ve missed some posts. Finally starting to settle into my new job and finding time to catch up!
