What do you get when you add free and dumb?
FREEDOM
My name is Makoto Heart and I’ve always wished for a chance at freedom. Every day, I prayed before the Starlight gods, asking for their divine assistance in accomplishing such a difficult task.
Being an experiment for as long as I can remember, my hopes of obtaining freedom have diminished, drastically. The disappointment haunted me, as myself and my spirits struggled to survive. I had no hope left, believing my final plea fell upon deaf ears, yet again.
But what happens when my prayers are finally answered? I’m thrust into fulfilling a destiny, with the help of six star knights. Suddenly, I am no longer experiment 555, but the stolen princess of Heila.
Freedom, how you have teased my troubled soul. May the Starlight gods guide me and my knights, on this path towards the unknown.
~In Stars We Trust~

I am reviewing the book Dark Wish by Yumoyori Wilson. Here are my thoughts:
^^ First, I must explain I’m in awe of this Indie author, she writes her books so fast, has built up a massive group of loyal fans and her stories always keep me riveted. On top of that, they’re just so damn fun! There are new series’ popping up all over the place!
^^ With this book, the story is based around a girl called Makoto Heart and her five star knights, of whom rescued her from Realm One where she started out her life being experimented on.
^^ As we follow her adventures, we discover Makoto is a really diverse, complex and quirky character (and quite endearing) with an angel and a demon spirit in her mind, plus a split personality called Midnight who she is able to summon and switch places with. Is there possibly room for more? Or will all these voices in her head drive her insane?
^^ The story is the first in the Starlight Gods Series and it’s set in a kind of science-fiction, fantasy world mix, where there are ten realms all created by different Starlight Gods who can take on any shape or form. Some realms are home to only certain shape-shifting species, while others are home to several. As it turns out Makoto (Mako) is the kidnapped Princess of Heila (Realm eight) and the Starlight Gods have prophesied she’ll bring peace to all the realms, but to do so, she must accept her fate.
^^ In addition to the ten realms, there are six shifter rankings ranging from Pink, the highest, to red the lowest. As you can see, Wilson has a built a whole awe inspiring fantastical world, packed with shape-shifting creatures detailed characters, and a detailed plot.
^^ We hear the story mainly through Makoto’s eyes, and sometimes through her spirits and her knights, too, which is nice as it provides an all round view of everything which is going on, and how other characters see things that Makoto may not.
^^ Any gripes? I spotted a few editorial errors, but nothing to really distract me from the fun. The book is also written in British/Canadian English, so that makes a refreshing change for me, and you’re warned of this in advance in case that bothers you. Incidentally, the editorial errors I found are not related to this language difference.
^^ The ‘romance’ I felt took a long time coming, about 50% into the book. Not a problem, but I noticed it, since this is a paranormal romance and quite frankly these knights are hot, so I was kind of expecting (or should that be hoping?) for some action between the sheets a little bit faster. 😃
Overall: The author has some great world building skills, and makes a somewhat quirky reverse harem story heaps of fun. I’ve a strange fascination with these characters and can’t wait to see how this particular series unfolds. Author Yumoyori Wilson is one to watch if you’re a fan of fantasy reverse harem shifter stories! I’m quite intrigued by this author and look forward to following her progress and seeing how she develops as a writer who does not seem short of ideas!
This sounds like a well developed, entertaining read! Great review! 🙂
