I failed…
My name is Ryder Carter, future heir of Realm Five, Minato.
I was destined to do great things, to walk alongside my fellow star knights, as we desperately searched for the woman who would lead our galaxy to salvation.
My spirit and I had failed her once, unable to prevent the chain of events and challenges she’d faced for sixteen cycles. Then, we finally found her – alive.
Within two rotations, she’d blossomed into a beautiful rose – such delicate petals, filled with purity and life. My mission was to guide her home, to where she truly belonged, as our Princess and saviour from the approaching darkness. She was more than just our Princess; I loved her with all my heart.
But…I failed. My once perfect rose, damaged by my failures. Would she ever forgive me, her star knight who’d sworn to protect her? Will I ever get the chance to tell her how much she means to me…to us?
Only the Starlight gods can tell. Please…bring my Firefly home.

My Review:
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars
I felt like a tainted rose – a flower once pure and white.
I’m reviewing Tainted Rose by Yumoyori Wilson. Here are my thoughts:
^^ In this 2nd book of the Starlight Gods series we wind down a bit from the action of the previous book, Dark Wish, and we’re taken on a trip to get to know Makoto’s Knights; the boys and their spirits at Knightwood Academy.
^^ Makoto is a really diverse, complex and quirky character who often acts a little on the childish side, which I guess is down to her being a little emotionally stunted due to being trapped in facility for most of her life. Even so, I find her quite endearing. But at the beginning of this book she’s trapped in a coma, on account of what happened in the previous book and it’s all a bit slow going. This does, however, provide with plenty of opportunity to be given an in depth character study of her five protectors. All of whom have their say in first person point of view.
^^ Now, once this got going I enjoyed this story and the dark ending, but was taken back by the sudden change of style and pace. This felt like a filler book for what was to come. And there is heaps promised, as this author is not only a fast, prolific writer, she’s also created a vast world of Realms and Universes, so I know we’ve got plenty more to hear about. Some of her other books have characters that even meet up later.
^^ At times I found it it a little hard to keep up all the names in this book, Mako has several spirits Rose, Lexi, Lily, Hope, who roam her mind and a split personality called Midnight who she is able to summon and switch places with. Then there are the five Knights and their spirits, and then the rest of the shifter cast at Knightwood. It’s like Harry Potter at Hogworts, only there are a lot of shifter exams and Pokemon type fighting.
Overall: Not my favourite book by Yumoyori Wilson, as it didn’t quite bloom for me, as the first one in this series did, but nevertheless it’s an interesting read. I know much more about Mako’s Knights now, their histories, and their current struggles. Kai is also a breath of fresh air. There’s also a hint of what’s to come on the horizon. I do hope this author fulfils all her promises!
