The Friday 56 (With Instagram 56 & Book Beginnings)

A Stranger in the House by Shari Lapena

OMG! I just love how this book was sent to me! What an ingenious way to market your books. You guys at Penguin really know your stuff!  I absolutely loved how the book came all wrapped in the “local newspaper”, tied up in string. The newspaper relates to the car crash in the book. It’s even got an advert for a lawyer, Jack Calvin, who is actually the lawyer in the book. It’s as if the whole story is shockingly real. Brilliant!

This is my feature book for the #Friday56 Bookish Meme with Freda. I’m also taking part in Book Beginnings, a weekly meme hosted by Rose City Reader.

What’s New?

Well, apart from being over excited about the way a book was delivered to me…

I discovered my old laptop does not cope well in the heat, and it could hardly stay on during this heatwave we’ve been having in England. Yes, you heard that right, heatwave. England. June!

Thankfully, it’s much cooler today and he has (my laptop) allowed me on today. Meanwhile, I’ve ordered an electric fan to cool down the both of us as soon as it heats up again.

But it’s not all doom and gloom lol I’ve actually thoroughly enjoyed extra reading time and written about thirty non-book reviews (via my Kindle, Evernote, and a cordless wifi keyboard Ack! Don’t ask!), plus I read several fantastic books, so I’ve plenty of news to share.

The first review I’ve posted earlier today is Blood Sisters by Jane Corry, you can find that review here. Please see below for the link to my chosen Friday56 and bookbeginnings memes, directly below.

The Review:

Here is the review for this book A Stranger in the House. I simply couldn’t read it fast enough!

Okay, onto the memes…

Book Beginnings:

She doesn’t belong here.
She bolts out of the back door of the abandoned restaurant, stumbling in the dark – most of the lights are burned out, or broken – her breath coming in loud rasps.

Here are a couple of sentences from page 56:

The glass on the counter by the sink wasn’t there when they left this morning for the lawyer’s office, she’s certain of it.

  1. I love it when publishers send creative packages that get you pumped for reading their books! This one sounds like it is going to be an interesting and fast-paced thriller. I hope that you enjoy it! 🙂

  2. I loved The Couple Next Door by Lapena, so as soon as I saw this new title coming soon, I had to bookmark it on Amazon. Can’t wait!

Thanks for sharing, and I love how the publisher presented the book to you. Very creative.

Thanks for visiting my blog, and enjoy!

  3. Oh. My. God…I would lose my mind if I got a book wrapped up like this! That’s awesome!! I read your review too. Looks like a must read! I just hopped over to Goodreads and clicked “Want to Read”!

  4. A new to me author, but not for much longer as all of her books sound great to me.

Your ’56 lines are really spooky and will make me have a good look around as soon as I come home to an empty house in future!

Loved the ingenious packaging, I’ll bet the postman wondered what was going on!

It has been so hot down here in Somerset too and even now the house just doesn’t seem to have cooled down any!

Have a good weekend and ‘Happy Reading’

  5. So beautiful. It’s wonderful enough getting a book delivery, but when it looks like that – wow!

Glad you’re reading in your heatwave. We’ve got a cold snap, and I’ve taken to lying on my side with my duvet over my ears. Luckily my Kindle can be read from hat position.

A Stranger in the House sounds eerie and chilling. Enjoy!

  6. That is AWESOME how they sent it to you! I would be all giddy getting something like that! If you are like me you’ll keep that newspaper right there with the book lol. I’ve enjoyed visiting your blog this month! I can’t wait to see what else you have in story 🙂
