A young woman server as a courier for the government, she can get anywhere faster because she runs as a wolf. Well it is finally over and after this last delivery she can finally be free from the army’s leash. As this chapter in her life comes to a close she gets in over her head in Romania with a vampire magi, and finds that mystical, fairy tale creatures are for real. With a plague sweeping the villages she must flee to protect herself and is drawn deeper into the preternatural world. The Penumbral Realm is more than she cares to imagine but soon becomes a place she longs to call home, and her vampire magi someone she never wants to leave. It is a long road from when Thorn first meet her vampire, who comes in to her cave while she is in wolf form. She attacks him to defend herself which turns into a sexual romp when she changes to human during the scuffle. She considers it a one time event he is sure it is just beginning.
The passion is intense. The story is griping, and well written. I love the strong male characters and the old world flair you get from reading about ancient people. Add in royalty magic and it is an unbeatable combination. Definitely a re-read, and I will be waiting to hear more from the Penumbral Realm.
