A Very Vegan Halloween: The Witch’s Cauldron The Vegan Holiday #Cookbook Collection #1 by Rebecca Henry @rebeccahenryaut #HalloweenHop #Day17 #Review

I’m really pleased to welcome back the talented author, Rebecca Henry! How’s this for a Halloween gift for your vegan, or plant-based diet fiends, I mean friends!

A Very Vegan Halloween – The Witch’s Cauldron Cookbook, is a great addition to my household! I am so pleased with it. Now, I am not vegan, or even vegetarian, but if I could be I would be – if it were not for my Crohn’s which means that I am unable to have too much fibre (vegetables!) However, I am also not supposed to have any dairy, and this is where my love for this book comes in, as being vegan means eating a plant-based diet. I mean, everyone is like – blimey, what can you eat?? (And that’s putting it politely! ahaha!)

So what’s inside this cookbook?

A lovely introduction to the ‘Kitchen Witch’, abbreviations, weight conversions, tools and ingredients for snacks, mains and desserts! I especially liked the list of foods you can use to replace items vegans can’t eat. For example, the egg replacer by Bob’s Red Mill, and other products that (if they’re hard to find in your local area) are most likely available from Amazon!

What sort of recipes can you expect from this book?

Nice and Toasty Pizza Webs

Boo-tiful Boo Bananas

Mysteriously Dreadful Mummy Sausages

Going Batty Chocolate Cupcakes with Cryptic Chocolate Frosting

Eerie Edible Eyeballs recipe for homemade googly eyes!

How is it laid out?

Each comes with ingredients, instructions and some handy ‘Witch’s Notes’, too. I found the recipes fairly were fun, easy to understand and very varied.

The only thing I wasn’t so keen on were the images, as they were real photos that seem to have been made into cartoon graphics. They kind of do work for kids, which I guess this book is aimed at, but as an adult who loves Halloween and vegan cooking I’d personally prefer to see author’s own images of her own creations. There was so much great information in this book, using stock images seemed like a last minute, rushed choice. I would have preferred this to be a cook book with real, glossy, appetising pictures. Still, (it’s not you, it’s me) that does not distract from the fact that overall I am very happy to recommend this fun cookbook! The fact that it’s all vegan, is also a blessing. Very happy indeed! And I am smiling here, like Grinning Granny Apples! (Another fun recipe!)
