Waiting on Wednesday / Can’t Wait Wednesday

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted here, at Wishful Endings, and my version is a mix of what I’m waiting to read, whether it’s a new release that is not out yet, or an older book on my TBR shelf, which I really want to read but haven’t got around to it yet.

SOON TO BE A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE!

The Giver of Stars by Jojo Moyes

Set in Depression-era America, a breathtaking story of five extraordinary women and their remarkable journey through the mountains of Kentucky and beyond, from the author of Me Before You and The Peacock Emporium

Alice Wright marries handsome American Bennett Van Cleve hoping to escape her stifling life in England.  But small-town Kentucky quickly proves equally claustrophobic, especially living alongside her overbearing father-in-law. So when a call goes out for a team of women to deliver books as part of Eleanor Roosevelt’s new traveling library, Alice signs on enthusiastically.

The leader, and soon Alice’s greatest ally, is Margery, a smart-talking, self-sufficient woman who’s never asked a man’s permission for anything. They will be joined by three other singular women who become known as the Horseback Librarians of Kentucky.

What happens to them–and to the men they love–becomes a classic drama of loyalty, justice, humanity and passion. Though they face all kinds of dangers, they’re committed to their job–bringing books to people who have never had any, sharing the gift of learning that will change their lives.

Based on a true story rooted in America’s past, The Giver of Stars is unparalleled in its scope.  At times funny, at others heartbreaking, this is a richly rewarding novel of women’s friendship, of true love, and of what happens when we reach beyond our grasp for the great beyond.

First thoughts

What have you been wanting to read?

Well, most people know Jojo Moyes story, and this is exactly why I wanted to read this book, because it was different to her most recent bestsellers – a historical fiction, no less. But what really made me want to read this was because it is SOON TO BE A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE! I have to read this book BEFORE I watch the film, so that the film doesn’t spoil my reading enjoyment. But… will the book spoil my viewing enjoyment?

Most likely, because films made from the books never quite match up to the detailed gorgeousness of an original story that has come directly from an author’s mind.

Is this on your TBR or have you already read it? What your ‘Can’t wait for’ book? Do let me know in the comments below. Thank you!

  1. That’s a new to me one! Not my kind of read but I hope you will positively love it!

    Thanks for visiting my WoW!

  2. I prefer to read the book first too–which is why there are so many movies out there I have yet to see . . . I thought this one seemed different than her recent books–I hope this one will be another hit for the author. It certainly sounds like it will be good. I hope you love it when you read it. Have a great week!
