What’s on your desk, Wednesday? Hywela Lyn #AuthorSpotlight #Interview with @Hywela_Lyn + #WaitingOnWednesday @HoJay92 #wow

Hey Bibliomaniacs,

It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for my weekly spotlight features, “What’s on your desk, Wednesday?”, where we take a visit to see what’s on somebody’s desk and have a good old nose around. (No kidding!) I’m also joining in with “WAITING ON WEDNESDAY” which you can find below this interview!

First, let’s take a look at where stories are created, from the desk of Hywela Lyn:

Tell us about your writing routine:

Routine? What’s that? I must be the most disorganised person ever. I spend a lot of time at the p.c. and usually have to deal with my emails first. I get loads of them and if I don’t keep on top of them they multiply so fast, and I’m afraid of missing something important. If I’m in the middle of writing a new story, then I’ll get down to work as soon as I’ve done all my other jobs and keep at it until I have to stop to eat, or see to my horse, T’pau and dog, Choccy, who often takes over if I leave my typing chair for too long.

If I’m revising and editing I try to carve out as much time as I can, but although I love the editing process I find I have to be really strict with myself and not got sidetracked by social media or updating my website, etc. I actually work better at night, so tend to do most of my writing in the late evening up until about midnight or even later – I could work  quite happily until 6 a.m.but then I’d have to sleep until noon! I’m a very ‘outdoors’ kind of person, and the said horse lives half an hour’s drive away, so a lot of my time is taken up with her and the dog. If the weather is good enough I will take my laptop out into the garden to write, and I love it when I’m able to do that.

By the way, see the toblerone by my horse bookend and the very out-of-date internet reference books in the bookcase? That was put up there by my husband to encourage me to finish NaNo – I can’t reach that high, I’m only 5 ft tall! Total cruelty!

What’s the weirdest thing on your desk?

Hmm, I’m not sure about ‘weird’ but I have a ring with a beautifully detailed owl, which can be worn but is really rather large, so I use it as a mascot, and an angel figurine in an angel figurine embedded in clear resin, both about an inch and a half high and given to me by two American author friends

The most useful item?

My desk diary, for recording blog posts I’m hosting or guesting at, appointments, and webinars etc I don’t want to miss. It also has plenty of pages for notes in case inspiration hits when I’m in the middle of doing something else on-line.

Three words to describe your desk?

Fairly organised chaos!

Where can we find out more about you?

Author Hywela Lyn

Virtual star traveller, incurable romantic and weaver of romance adventures  that are ‘out of this world’, Hywela Lyn lives on the Buckinghamshire/Bedfordshire border with her husband Dave, although she was born in rural Wales where she spent her childhood and most of her adult life. The rugged Welsh landscapes and the myths and legends of Wales inspired much of her writing.

She is published by the American publisher The Wild Rose Press. Although most her writing tends to be futuristic, the worlds she creates are usually untainted by crowded cities and technology, embracing the beauty and wildness of nature. Her characters often have to fight the elements and the terrain itself. However difficult the journey, love will always win in the end.

She is a member of The Romantic Novelists’ Association (UK)  and Chiltern Writers, her local writing group. A keen animal lover, she is pet parent to a mare ‘with attitude’, a ‘feral’ stable cat, and a rescued terrier, who manages to twist her round his little paw. When she is not writing, she can usually be found enjoying the outdoors with her horse and dog, reading – or just eating chocolate!

BLURB:

Cat Kincaid is obsessed with killing the man she believes is responsible for the torture and death of her sister, but when she eventually catches up with him, survival becomes a greater priority than revenge.

Kerry Marchant, haunted by memories, regret and self-blame, shields himself from the pain of the past by committing himself totally to the starship, Destiny, of which he is part owner. However, the beautiful, red haired woman who reminds him of his lost love, and who he suspects is working for a corrupt regime, represents a possible threat not only to the ship, but to his heart.

Marooned on an inhospitable planet, they need to work together to stay alive, fighting not only unknown assailants, but their growing attraction. But how can they learn to trust each other when he has vowed never to get close to a woman again, and she made a solemn pledge to destroy him?

The first two books, Starquest and Children Of the Mist are also available as audio books and Beloved Enemy will be released in audio soon.

Waiting on Wednesday / Can’t Wait Wednesday

cantwaitwednesday

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted here, at Wishful Endings, and my version is a mix of what I’m waiting to read, whether it’s a new release that is not out yet, or an older book on my TBR shelf, which I really want to read but haven’t got around to it yet.

Here’s my ‘Can’t wait to read’, book for this week:

A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson on Alternative-Read.com

‘Dark, dangerous and intricately plotted – my heart literally pounded. I haven’t been this addicted to anything since Serial. Holly Jackson is the next big thing, I promise’ – Laura Steven, author of The Exact Opposite of Okay

A debut YA crime thriller as addictive as Serial as compelling as Riverdale and as page-turning as One of Us Is Lying

The case is closed. Five years ago, schoolgirl Andie Bell was murdered by Sal Singh. The police know he did it. Everyone in town knows he did it.

But having grown up in the same small town that was consumed by the crime, Pippa Fitz-Amobi isn’t so sure. When she chooses the case as the topic for her final project, she starts to uncover secrets that someone in town desperately wants to stay hidden. And if the real killer is still out there, how far will they go to keep Pip from the truth . . . ?

Perfect for fans of One of Us Is LyingGone Girl, We Were Liars and Riverdale

Holly Jackson started writing stories from a young age, completing her first (poor) attempt at a novel aged fifteen. She lives in London and aside from reading and writing, she enjoys playing video games and watching true crime documentaries so she can pretend to be a detective. A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder is her first novel. You can follow Holly on Twitter and Instagram @HoJay92

What have you been wanting to read? Is this on your TBR or have you already read it? Let me know in the comments below!

    1. You’re very welcome! It’a a lot of fun and I have to ask – did you achieve your goal and get your Toblerone?

      1. Yes, I did, Sassy, I reached my 50,000 word goal, got my Toblerone – and am hoping to submit the revised manuscript to my publisher soon!

      2. That’s fantastic news! Go you! I’m really pleased for you!!

And I get the Toblerone was yummy!

  1. You seem wonderfully organized to me! I don’t even have a desk. That being said, I’d do almost anything for a Toblerone.

    1. Lol me too! Love 💕 ‘em – although they’ve thinned out since the chunky little fellows I used to pig out on! Lol

    2. Aw thanks Laura, I have to say ‘organized’ is not an adjective I’d use to describe myself, but I do have to agree about the Toblerone. I think it’s the combination of honey and nougat and really nice chocolate, it seems such a lovely combination!
