Hopefully, above, you can actually see my Instagram pictures! On Instagram you have to swipe to see all the pictures, since I clumped together both my Book Beginnings and Friday56 posts.

Just in case you can’t see beyond the first photo, here’s the Friday 56 sentence below:

Julia smiles to herself, wishing she’d had half the kid’s confidence, when she was that age. Then she closes the door and goes back down to the kitchen,  where she turns the radio on and starts chopping vegetables for dinner.

Sassy here: Honestly, when something in a book is that mundane you just KNOW there is more going on that this character doesn’t know about, or is yet to find out…  😀

My Thoughts:

‘Close to Home’ is the 1st book in the Oxford detective DI Adam Fawley series by author Cara Hunter.

I have just finished this book, and I read it really fast. I found the whole Daisy Mason mystery really intriguing and loved the way it was written. My copy was an ARC copy, so I’m not entirely sure it’s the final version, but I really enjoyed how there was actually NOT any separate chapter breaks. It was all a mix of interviews, police reports, newspaper cuttings in different fonts. So each part of the story was told in different formats and had their own natural breaks. In a way, I think this made it an even faster and quite unique read.  I do hope the finished product stays the same for you.

If you like these ‘who did it?’ missing children stories, do read this when you have the chance. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

If you have already read this book, what did you think? Feel free to link up your review to this post!

Blurb:

Someone took Daisy Mason.
Someone YOU KNOW.Twists galore, a gripping race against time, and police characters you’ll love – if you were addicted to Broadchurch and Line of Duty, then CLOSE TO HOME is for you.

How can a child go missing without a trace?

Last night, 8-year-old Daisy Mason disappeared from her parents’ summer party. No one in the quiet suburban street saw anything – or at least that’s what they’re saying.

DI Adam Fawley is trying to keep an open mind. But he knows that nine times out of ten, it’s someone the victim knew.

That means someone is lying.

And that Daisy’s time is running out…

  1. Hi Sassy,

It’s such a shame when the much coveted ‘real’ book arrives, only to be an ARC copy without the amazing cover art of the finished version!

Anyway, lack of cover art notwithstanding, this is definitely one for my own list, as the pre-publishing ratings and reviews have so far been outstanding.

I hope that you enjoyed the book and I can’t wait to read your review.

    Thanks for sharing 🙂

    1. Hi Yvonne,

I’m torn. I do love how some publishing companies package, and design their ARC copies, but at the same time I also miss out on some of the most beautiful finished covers. You know, with dazzling foil printing and sparkles lol

Quite often if the cover is really good, I’ll buy the finished product anyway. 🙂
