Do you read celebrity memoirs? Which ones have you read or do you want to read? Which nonexistent celebrity memoirs would you like to see?
I was going to straight away say, no, I don’t, but I have picked up a few memoirs — mainly those of writers. Until I saw this question, I didn’t even realise this “pattern” of mine. Or is that narrow mindedness? 🙂 Those that I’ve read of which I remember:
- Roald Dahl
- Stephen King
- Dean Koontz
- Ambrose Briece
- George Orwell
- Slyvia Plath — The Bell Jar — (added this afterwards as I visited uncertainprinciples at her book blog anothercookiecrumbles and read her last comment. Thanks for jogging my memory!) I would class this as a memoir as it is an autobiographical account of Sylvia’s own mental breakdown and suicide attempt. I know, happy stuff! A compelling read though. Even if I am wrong.
Not many, which I put down to not really being interested in celebrities books. I get enough of them on telly! I wouldn’t mind reading Stephen Fry’s autobiography though. Yes, the more sensible, intriguing kind of celeb. Someone I feel really has something to say. In fact, now I have said that, I really want that for my TBR list! See the picture above.
Here is a review from Amazon.co.uk
“‘Stephen Fry is one of the great originals… This autobiography of his first twenty years is a pleasure to read, mixing outrageous acts with sensible opinions in bewildering confusion… That so much outward charm, self-awareness and intellect should exist alongside behaviour that threatened to ruin the lives of innocent victims, noble parents and Fry himself, gives the book a tragic grandeur and lifts it to classic status.’ Financial Times; ‘A remarkable, perhaps even unique, exercise in autobiography… that aroma of authenticity that is the point of all great autobiographies; of which this, I rather think, is one’ Evening Standard; ‘He writes superbly about his family, about his homosexuality, about the agonies of childhood… some of his bursts of simile take the breath away… his most satisfying and appealing book so far’ Observer”
Which nonexistent celebrity memoirs would I like to see? Are there any celebrities in the world – that haven’t written one? 🙂 If there are they’re probably dead.
