Known for her ability to manipulate fire and as a “medium”, Serafina Grovenor has been, more or less, the adopted slave of Samael Grovenor. Used by him to gain entrée to the wealthy, she must try to return Emily to her biological father before Samael begins bringing her into the depravities he practices. But to do this she must convince Lord Rashleigh that Emily is indeed his lost daughter Melissa and circumvent Grovenor’s plans.
Having become known as something of an expert de-bunker of paranormal charlatans, Vincent Devonald, Lord Rashleigh, cannot completely dismiss Serafina. Neither does he have the necessary proof that Emily is indeed his and Susan’s daughter, Melissa, lost to him when Grovenor convinced Susan to run away from him. Does Serafina work to betray him as well?
Samael Grovenor has spent the last ten years figuring a way to reach a goal seemingly unattainable: to make love to the one body always denied him—Vincent Devonald. Getting Susan addicted to morphine and leaving her to die was just the beginning. Now he would add Serafina to the mix for earning his revenge.
A most stimulating read with elements of murder, addiction, pyromania (though possibly not, since it was internal), stolen children, vengeance, revenge, spirits and mediums. Let’s not forget some extremely vivid sex and a child’s adaptability. It had for me enough to be very interesting without being completely impossible. I truly enjoyed this.
